Games like OpenFront and Territorial.io
If you like grabbing the map in OpenFront or Territorial.io, here are the browser and strategy games worth trying next, what each one does well, and where SECOND STRIKE fits in. All the browser ones are free.
OpenFront
A free, open-source browser game of real-time territory control on world maps, with big online lobbies, trade, ships and a competitive community that runs its own tournaments. If you came from Territorial.io and want more depth, this is the usual next step.
Territorial.io
The classic. Fast, simple rounds in the browser: spread across the map, balance troops and expansion, and outlast everyone. Easy to learn in a minute, which is why so many people start here.
RISK: Global Domination
The official digital version of the board game, turn by turn, on phones, tablets and Steam. Slower and more deliberate than the browser games, with online play against other people.
TripleA
A free, open-source turn-based grand strategy game in the style of Axis and Allies, with a long list of community maps. Much deeper and longer than a browser round.
DEFCON
A paid PC game from 2006 about global thermonuclear war, played on a stark world map. If what you enjoy is the tension of who launches first, it is still the reference.
SECOND STRIKE
This is mine, so take it as the developer's description. SECOND STRIKE is a free real-time world war in the browser, on a 3D satellite globe of the real Earth with about 2,000 real cities. You grow from your own country by taking the land next to you, sign pacts, break them, and build fleets, silos and satellites. Online wars take up to 200 players.
What makes it different is a shared doomsday clock. It starts at 8 minutes to midnight, every nuke that lands takes a minute off, and whoever's strike reaches midnight is wiped out. Nukes get more expensive as the clock runs down, so the endgame is usually a standoff where everyone has one strike saved and nobody wants to be the one.
The rival nations are AI characters with their own personalities. They talk in chat, bluff, and remember you from your last war. There is also a mode where you play the exact war that AI models like GPT and DeepSeek played, same map and start, and compare how you did. Twice a day, at 3 PM and 9 PM Eastern, everyone online is pulled into one Big War.
