Terms of use

SECOND STRIKE at secondstrike.io is a game made and run by Clouthier Simulation Labs, a sole proprietorship operated by Kyle Clouthier in Ontario, Canada ("we"). By playing you agree to these terms.
13 and older
The game contains cartoon war, nuclear explosions and chat with other players. You must be 13 or older to play, and if you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission, including for any purchase.
Fiction and parody
SECOND STRIKE is a work of fiction and parody. Its leaders are parody caricatures with parody names, drawn and written for comic effect. When you talk to a leader, the reply is written on the spot by an AI model playing that caricature; it can be smug, it can lie to you, and nothing it says is a statement of fact about any real person, government or company. Nothing in the game is affiliated with or endorsed by any government, person or company. Country, city and weapon details are simplified for gameplay. Satellite imagery is from NASA; map data is from Natural Earth.
Playing fairly
Do not cheat, use bots or scripts to play for you, exploit bugs on purpose, attack or overload the servers, or leave and rejoin to dodge a loss. Breaking these rules can get you removed from matches without warning.
The SECOND STRIKE League runs a season every week. Season honours, titles and Discord roles are for bragging rights only: they have no cash value and cannot be sold or traded. We may remove honours or points won by cheating, and we may change how seasons are scored.
Chat and names
Online matches have chat, emotes and player names. Do not use them to harass, threaten, impersonate, spam, advertise, post links or share anyone's personal information. Names and chat are filtered and links are blocked, but you are responsible for what you type. Click a player's name in the chat to mute them or REPORT them; a report sends us their recent lines from that war. You can also report a player from their page. We may rename players or clans, close clans, or ban players from online wars (and the address they play from) for a time or for good, at our discretion.
The store
The store sells one-time purchases through PayPal, priced in US dollars: bundles (the Founder Bundle, the Commander Pack and the Supporter Pack), territory colours and patterns, nuke effects, emotes, name flair, and tips. Everything is cosmetic: nothing changes troops, damage, costs or any other number in the fight, and nothing renews. Tips are a thank-you and unlock nothing. Bundles include items added to them after you bought them.
After your first purchase you get a restore code. Everything you buy is tied to it and it unlocks your items on any device; keep it somewhere safe, or sign in so it follows your account. Cosmetics you wear are shown to the other players in your matches. If something goes wrong or you change your mind within 30 days, email us with your restore code or PayPal receipt and we will refund you; refunded items are removed from your code. Items in the store may change over time, but anything you bought stays yours for as long as the game runs.
Referral links and creator codes
Any signed-in player can make a referral link (secondstrike.io/r/CODE) in their service record. When someone opens your link, or types your code in Settings, your code is saved on their device, and you earn a share (10% unless we agree a different share with you) of the price of every store purchase they make while it is set. Earnings are counted on the US dollar price of each sale; a refunded or reversed sale earns nothing and is taken off your total. You cannot earn on your own purchases or on accounts you control, and the person who buys chooses which code they support and can change or remove it at any time.
We pay what you are owed in US dollars by PayPal, usually in the first week of each month, once you are owed US$10 or more, to the PayPal email you set on that page. Payouts go only to adults: if you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), the PayPal account must belong to your parent or guardian and they must agree. You are responsible for any tax on what you earn. If you link your Twitch channel, your stream (name, title, viewer count and preview image) is shown publicly in LIVE NOW and may be announced on our Discord while you stream SECOND STRIKE; we may leave out or remove any stream at our discretion, and you can unlink at any time. Do not spam your link, buy ads that bid on the SECOND STRIKE name, pretend to be us, or offer anything in exchange for using your code. We may switch off a code, hold or cancel earnings that come from fraud or from breaking these rules, and change or end the program; if we end it, we pay what was fairly earned before that.
The game can change
We update the game often. Features, balance, weapons, leaders and modes can change or be removed, and matches can end early if a server restarts. The game is provided as is, without warranties, and we are not liable for lost progress or data, or for any indirect loss from using it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
Ownership
The game, its code, art, music and text belong to Clouthier Simulation Labs. You may share screenshots, clips and your results freely, including in videos and streams.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and of Canada that apply there.
